My role UX/UI Designer
Project Summary Harnessing the Viber design system to create a responsive microsite about a new Public Chats feature.
Personas Viber Users, Chat Platform Users, International Texters, Social Media Users/Influencers
The challenge Viber was a well known commodity in Asia and South America in 2015, because of the high cost of text messaging in those areas. Viber made it possible to chat and message your friends without having to pay for text messages. In North America, they were less well known, so they were launching a Public Chats feature to gain more North American users. The target market being Millennials and Gen Zers that wanted to chat with new people, celebrities, and friends on a fun, safe, secure platform.
Solution This youthful and optimistic site gave motion and energy to the new Public Chats feature. With stylized photography, bright colors, and expressive lines lead a user’s eye through the content. There is a video element to tell the Viber Public Chats story further, and multiple points to interact with the Viber brand. The icon style I developed has a sketched feel to match the expressive lines. This is all to give a user the sense that they are giving life to the Viber Public Chats, which in many ways they are. It’s not just a service, but a co-created content platform.

Results The microsite was a hit and Viber users jumped into Public Chats. Viber has become a leading alternative to texting around the world.
